There are many advantages for the end user by using Hard Chrome on Bronze. By depositing Hard Chrome on top of a Bronze under layer the corrosion resistance properties are enhanced for the most demanding industrial applications.
Plated products and processed components using the Hard Chrome on top of Bronze are used in all types of engineering applications:
Hydraulic Ram Rods, Linear Bearings, Pneumatic Rods, Gas Springs, Shock Absorbers, Shackle Pins and Railway Buffers.
In addition, when conditions demand a level of corrosion resistance beyond the performance of Hard Chrome direct onto Steel. Such applications include underground mining, dockside and seawater environments.
Corrosion Resistance
The corrosion resistance is increased by the bronze undercoat. The thicker the bronze deposit the longer the service life becomes. A typical thickness for hydraulic ram rods working under fairly arduous conditions would be 0.050mm deposit of Bronze & 0.025mm of Hard Chrome. Salt spray testing has been carried out under BS7479 and ratings of 9 are typical after 1500 hours. We are aware of components used in very arduous conditions that have given good service after a period of 8 years, with thicker coatings of 0.100mm of bronze. A Hard Chrome coating without bronze would not have survived more than a few months.
